Built to Last: The Materials Behind Every MTM Watch

What separates an indestructible watch from an ordinary timepiece is the engineering behind every component. MTM does not compromise on any of the three critical elements that define a true outdoor tactical watch.

Titanium and 316L Stainless Steel. MTM cases are machined from solid aeronautical-grade titanium or 316L stainless steel. Both materials are available across the Special Ops lineup, offering different weight and finish profiles depending on the model and configuration chosen.

Sapphire Crystal. Every MTM watch is protected by a sapphire crystal glass that is anti-reflective, scratch-resistant, and coated with an ultraviolet protective layer. Available in brushed silver, sandblasted grey, and black DLC coating across the lineup.

Locking Screw-Down Crown. A locking, screw-down crown is standard on every MTM model. This construction ensures maximum protection against water ingress and accidental crown displacement during active use.

Illumination Technology: Tritium and LED

MTM Special Ops offers two distinct illumination technologies across its hiking tactical watch lineup. The choice between them depends on the operational requirements of the user.

Passive Tritium Gas Tubes — used in the Warrior and Predator — are approved by the United States Nuclear Regulatory Committee (US NRC) and provide a constant, self-powered glow for over 25 years without the need for any external source.

Active LED Systems — found in the Falcon, Vulture, and Silencer — are rechargeable systems integrating white LED torches, emergency strobe functions, and in the case of the Vulture, ultraviolet light capabilities.

MTM RAD — The World’s First Geiger Counter Watch

The MTM RAD is in a category of its own. Introduced in 2008 as the world’s first geiger counter watch, it detects, measures, and displays harmful levels of ionizing gamma radiation through a Geiger-Müller tube. It measures both single-dose gamma ray levels and cumulative exposure over time, with a dose equivalent rate range of 0.1 to 4000 microsieverts per hour and a dose equivalent range of 0.0001 to 9999 millisieverts. Users can preset a maximum radiation threshold, triggering an alarm when reached. The case is solid titanium, the hands are illuminated by tritium gas tubes, and the display is EL backlit. MTM was established over twenty-eight years ago by an ex-military founder who understood the demands and harsh environments that tactical timepieces needed to survive. Every watch is hand-built in America by highly skilled craftsmen and women at the MTM headquarters in Downtown Los Angeles, California.
