MTM RAD: The Geiger Counter Watch

Among all the tactical watches available on the market, very few can truly be called instruments in the technical sense of the word. The MTM RAD is one of them. Part of the MTM Special Ops line, the RAD is not simply a military watch: it is a Geiger counter watch, one of the few in the world, capable of detecting, measuring and displaying harmful ionizing radiation levels in real time. A limited edition of 1500 individually numbered pieces, fully customizable like all Special Ops models, designed for those who operate in contexts where radiation detection is not optional but an operational necessity.

Why This Watch?

Most tactical watches measure time. The MTM RAD measures risk. Integrating a radiation detector watch directly on the wrist means having a continuous and always-available reading of radiation levels, without separate instruments to manage, without additional bulk, without operational distractions. When operating in a potentially contaminated environment, having an immediate and continuous reading of radiation levels on the wrist can contribute to greater awareness of radiological risk at every operational moment.

Who Is the MTM RAD For?

The MTM RAD is designed for those who operate professionally in contexts where radiation detection is a real necessity:

  • Military personnel deployed in potentially contaminated zones
  • First responders in CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear) scenarios
  • Radiological technologists and technicians working daily in proximity to radioactive sources
  • Civil protection specialists and nuclear safety professionals
  • Watch collectors drawn to its technical uniqueness and limited production of 1500 individually numbered pieces

When to Use It?

The MTM RAD is built for operational contexts where radiation detection is a critical variable: contaminated zones, rescue operations in nuclear areas and CBRN scenarios. Unlike a traditional portable detector, the RAD is always on the wrist, always active, always readable. Hands free, immediate reading, no additional instruments to carry or manage.

What Is the MTM RAD and How Does It Work

The MTM RAD is a hybrid analog-digital Geiger-Müller watch that measures harmful ionizing radiation through a Geiger-Müller tube integrated in the case. It detects single-dose gamma ray levels and cumulative exposure over time, providing a continuous and precise reading of the radiological situation in the operator’s area.

The measurement system covers:

  • Dose Equivalent Rate (DER): 0.1 to 4000 μSv/h
  • Dose Equivalent (DE): 0.0001 to 9999 mSv
  • Accumulation Time Range: 1 to 9999 hours
  • Energy Range: 0.06 to 1.5 MeV
  • Accuracy DE: +/- 25%

Users can preset their maximum radiation threshold up to 9999 mSv, and an audible alarm sounds when the level has been reached. Measurement time decreases automatically in the range of 300 to 2 seconds based on detected conditions.

Display and Information Reading

The MTM RAD Geiger counter watch features an advanced display system for immediate information reading even in low-visibility conditions:

  • Graphic display of dose equivalent rate
  • Graphic display of accumulated dose equivalent
  • Digital readout switchable between dose equivalent rate, accumulated dose and time
  • EL backlight for night reading

The analog hour, minute and second hands are illuminated by gas-filled tritium tubes, providing a constant time reading even in complete darkness without any external source.

Two Independent Power Systems

The MTM RAD features two separate power systems: a rechargeable lithium-ion battery dedicated to the Geiger-Müller tube for radiation detection, and a traditional battery for timekeeping functions. This ensures that the two primary functions of the watch remain operational independently of each other.

Construction and Technical Specifications

Like all models in the MTM Special Ops line, the RAD is built to the highest standards. The case is solid titanium, available in brushed silver, sandblasted grey and black DLC coating. The dial is brass, the glass is sapphire crystal anti-reflective and scratch-resistant with UV protective coating, locking screw-down crown.

A Watch That Exists Nowhere Else

The MTM RAD is not a watch with one extra feature. It is a radiological detection instrument with a watch integrated, designed for those who operate where risk awareness cannot wait. In a limited edition of 1500 individually numbered pieces, it is one of the few radiation detector watches in the world that combines the precision of tactical watchmaking with Geiger-Müller radiation detection technology. Available in the customized configurations of the Special Ops line, with interchangeable straps and finishes to spec.
